As an option to living in a hotel, Mrs Harris's boarding house provided accommodation for those who required it. Mrs Kennedy was the first proprietor and later sold it to Mrs Harris. An item of interest for a period of time was provided by a miniature working model windmill and tank which had been erected in the front garden of the boarding house by Mr H Jeffiries. This building is still standing on Alma Street.
