Houlahan Family

William Houlahan was one of the original landowners in the area.  The town was actually formed on the edge of his property, "Locharver".  William owned about half of the town, having build the first hotel, bank premises, butchery and court house. Mary Houlahan was married to Oliver Hardy from Burren Junction, and they had a large family.  One daughter, Thelma, married Hector Radford, and they conducted an agency business in Burren Junction for many years. They had two children, Warwick and Shirley, and Warwick conducted the business at his Coronation Hotel for a number of years before moving from the area, with his wife Shirley and family.  Following Hector's death a few years ago, Mrs Thelma Radford retired to Sydney.  Ada Hardy married Frederick Dempsey from "Maxwelton", and they sold out and left the area in the 1930s.

Mollie Hardy married Victor Dempsey from "Nerrub" and their grandson Phillip and his wife Vicki and two sons moved to Nundle from Burren Junction.

John Houlahan owned "Plainview" for a while and later sold it to Harry Jones in about 1916. John Houlahan died on 13.3.1942 at the age of 91 and is buried in the Burren Junction Cemetery.

Leo Houlahan took over "Locharver" from his father William, and he owned various properties in the town, including the butcher's shop in Houlahan Street.  His family was Ron, Flora, Leo, Margaret, John and Laureen.  After the Second World War, it seems that the Houlahan family also dispersed to other areas.
